25 Minimalist Rules to Change Your Life in 2025: Simplify, Focus, and Thrive

25 Rules and CHANGE Your Life in 2025 even if you're not a minimalist

If you're looking to simplify your life in 2025 and focus on what truly matters, minimalism might be your answer. But it’s not about getting rid of everything. It's about curating your life with intention, so you can enjoy mental clarity and focus on the meaningful experiences that bring you joy. Here are 25 minimalist rules to help you transform your life, whether or not you identify as a minimalist.

1. One in One Out Rule

For every new item you bring into your home, commit to letting go of something similar. This rule helps prevent clutter and encourages mindful consumption.

2. The 90/90 Rule

Ask yourself: "Have I used this item in the last 90 days, and will I use it in the next 90 days?" If the answer is no, it’s time to declutter and move on.

3. The Hell Yes Rule

Only commit to things that excite you. If it’s not a "hell yes," then it’s a "hell no." This will help you say no to things that don’t align with your values.

4. Let Go of Duplicates

Identify duplicates in your home and eliminate them. Reducing excess items creates more space and simplifies your life. Like we do with files and images in our computer.

5. Spontaneous Combust Rule

Imagine if your items vanished overnight. Would you miss them? If not, it’s time to let them go and assess the value they bring to your life.

6. The 30-Day Rule

Before making an impulse purchase, wait 30 days. This will help you evaluate if you truly need the item or if it's just a passing desire. I add also some variations, it depends on what kind of item or how much it cost and impact to my finance, so basically can be 7-15-30 days.

7. Wish List and Wait

Create a wish list and revisit it after a month. You’ll often realize that many things you thought you wanted aren’t necessary after all. I do this with my amazon account. I also divided in multiple wishlist for more tag related.

8. If You Can’t Pay for It, You Can’t Afford It

Avoid debt by sticking to purchases you can pay for upfront. This simple rule reduces financial stress and promotes financial responsibility. Simply don't buy if you can't buy it cash. Only house are beyond this rule.

9. The Spilled Coffee Rule

If an item were damaged, would you clean it up without hesitation? If not, it’s time to let it go. Evaluate the effort it takes to maintain each possession.

10. The Box Rule

If you're unsure about an item, place it in a box for two months. If you haven't thought about it or needed it, it’s time to let it go. In conncetion with rule 1 and 4.

11. Simplify Your Wardrobe

In connection with the previous rule. Track your wardrobe usage for a month. Most people wear 20% of their clothing 80% of the time. Donate or sell what you don’t regularly wear. Also see the rule 14 about Decluttering.

12. Quality Over Quantity

Instead of filling your space with low-quality items, prioritize high-quality investments that will last longer and bring more satisfaction. As Dieter Rams said (and my personal mantra): "Less But Better".

13. Experiences Over Things aka TRAVELS !!

Shift your focus from material possessions to memorable experiences that bring joy, like spending time with loved ones or traveling.

14. Declutter Before Organizing

Before purchasing organizational tools, start by decluttering. This ensures that you're only organizing the things you truly need and value.

15. Designated Places for Items

Give everything a designated space in your home. This will reduce stress and save time when looking for things. And this is the most difficult rule to me. I embrace the chaos too many times.

16. The Two-Minute Rule - Just Do it.

If a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately. This prevents procrastination and reduces mental clutter.

17. Put Your Home to Bed Rule

End each day by tidying up. A clean space when you wake up promotes mental clarity and sets a productive tone for the day.

18. Digital Declutter

Regularly clean your digital space by deleting apps, organizing files, and managing notifications. This reduces digital overload and improves productivity.

19. Upgrade Less

Instead of constantly upgrading your items, only invest in new ones when absolutely necessary. This helps break the cycle of consumerism. So basically no need to buy a new phone, a new tv, a new wardrobe every year.

20. Know Your Why

Before decluttering or purchasing, ask yourself why you're doing it. Understanding your motivation helps you make intentional choices.

21. Be Selfish

Prioritize your well-being first. A healthy mindset allows you to support others without sacrificing your own happiness.

22. The Other People Rule

Reject societal pressures and focus on what makes you happy. Live life on your terms, not based on others' expectations of success. Remember: you have a family to feed not a community to impress.

23. Focus on Relationships

Nurture your relationships with loved ones. Meaningful connections bring far more joy than material possessions ever will.

24. Enough

Learn to appreciate what you already have. By shifting your mindset from wanting more to valuing what’s enough, you can find true contentment.

25. Progress Over Perfection

Embrace the journey of simplifying your life. Don’t wait for perfection—take small steps every day, and celebrate your progress. Compound life.
